His Excellency Mr. Soumen Bagchi, Ambassador of India to Iraq
H.E. Mr. Soumen Bagchi assumed charge as the Ambassador of India to Iraq on 08 November, 2024. Ambassador Bagchi is a senior Indian diplomat with more than three decades of experience in diplomacy.
Ambassador Bagchi joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1993. His first overseas posting was Brussels (1995-1998) followed by Dhaka (1998- 2001) and San Francisco (2005-2009). Ambassador Bagchi has also served at Headquarters in various capacities in Counter Terrorism, Southern, Administration, SAARC & BIMSTEC, and West Africa Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Before joining his current assignment, he had been looking after the charge of Deputy Director General in ICWA (Indian Council of World Affairs) since 2018, and then as Acting Director General. The Indian Council of World Affairs is a New Delhi - based Indian think-tank, established in 1943.
Mr. Bagchi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Technology from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. He knows English, Bengali, Hindi and French languages.
